Hey everyone! I’m Ginsy from the Wavers Social Club, and I’d love to share my journey as an aspiring kiter.
With winter behind us, the icy waters of the Netherlands are finally warming up, just in time for epic sessions! When I first started kitesurfing two years ago, I thought riding solo was the ultimate way to push my limits. Independence, self-reliance… it all sounded empowering. But trust me, nothing beats having a kite buddy.
💨 A Winter Wake-Up Call 💨
Determined to take on the winter swells at Wijk aan Zee, I braved the cold, the messy waves, and the unpredictable winds. At times, I rode alone, until one session changed everything.
The wind dropped, my kite crashed, and suddenly, I was drifting downwind, out of sight, completely helpless. Panic kicked in. The struggle to relaunch felt endless. I thought for a moment that I was going to be stuck right there. By the time I reached the shore, exhausted and shaken, I realized how far I had drifted from the crowd. Then, my buddy appeared. He had been watching from a distance, ready to step in if needed. And in that moment, I knew… kiting isn’t meant to be a solo sport. I felt a sense of relief when he showed up and told me he had been keeping an eye on me. I’m truly grateful I chose to bring my friend along that day…

Some of my closest friends today? They started as my kite buddies. Now, we’re inseparable! On and off the water. And let’s be real, most kiters have more than one wild hobby. The best adventures? They start when you kite together. We’ll make great memories together, and there’s nothing better than having a buddy to learn from along the way.
